Bryce's Fractured Wrist

Last Sunday our friends invited us over to watch the series finale of Dexter. We settled her two girls upstairs with a movie and let Bryce play up there with them. We took our stair gate down a few weeks ago because he doesn't play on the stairs much and when he does he can go up and down them very well. I was a little nervous at their house because he was playing on their stairs coming up an down with toys. We were watching the show and I was holding their 5 week old baby when we heard thud, thud, thud. Russ and I both jumped up and ran over to the stairs but by the time we got there he had made it all the way to the bottom. Russ picked him up and I handed the baby off to her mom. I was shaking and we were all terrified. None of us know how many stairs he fell down or how he fell exactly but we saw him tumble down head over feet. It was awful. I was freaking out and didn't know what to do. I took him from Russ and checked for any bumps and then started moving all his limbs to see if anything hurt him. He wouldn't lift his left arm and his wrist seemed swollen. We decided to take him to the emergency room but before we left, Audrey suggested the men give him a blessing. After the blessing we were able to calm him down and drove home to grab his diaper bag. Russ suggested I call my Aunt Sherri first. She is a PA and told us to check his head for any bumps, check that his eyes dilate and both pupils were the same size. All of that seemed okay so she said to give him Tylenol and check his wrist again in the morning. I couldn't sleep all night. It was the worst feeling ever. I just kept thinking over and over of what could have happened or what if something was wrong with his head or neck. Being a parent is such a stressful things.  I had to work Monday morning but before I left I checked his wrist and it still hurt him when I touched it. Russ took him into the pediatrician and they sent him to the hospital to get an xray. They said the radiologist had to read the xray and it may take up to several hours. Russ had to get to work so he took Bryce to the babysitter. They pediatricians office called back and said he had a buckle fracture in his wrist. It was not broken but it is like green stick when you bend it, it snaps but doesn't break. We took him in at 6 pm to get his little cast on. He did pretty good getting it on as long as he had fruit snacks to eat. At first he tried to take it off and hated it. Now I think he is used to it but he loses his balance and falls a lot more. He didn't seem to be in pain anymore and the doctor said that once the cast is on the pain generally goes away. He has to wear it for 4-5 weeks and then he should be good as new!
