Our first month with Baby Bryce has been amazing, challenging, great, scary and perfect all at the same time. Bringing him home was an exciting time but also a scary time for me. For those who know me, know I am a worrier so every little thing stressed me out. I would get anxiety before I'd go to sleep because Bryce had his days and nights confused so I knew I'd be up all night. I also worried if he was eating enough since I am breast feeding there is no way to really tell. I loved having my mom and nana there to help me. After a few weeks I felt like I kind of got the hang of it. The thought of going out of my house wasn't so terrifying anymore. By this time Bryce got circumcised and wasn't too happy about it. He was 2 weeks old and started crying and being more fussy. His first 2 weeks of life he never cried so I thought something was wrong and took him into the pediatrician. The pediatrician said he thought he had colic and recommended the book and dvd the happiest baby on the block. I immediately went to the library and rented the DVD. It recommends the 5 S's 1. swaddle, 2. side, 3. swing, 4. shhhhh 5. suck. I started swaddling him properly at night and left a white noise maker on. Since then he has gotten so much better. I don't really think he was colicky, I just think he realized that this is real life and I am no longer in my mommy's belly. I just had to learn baby's cry and that is okay. Not long after this Bryce got a little pimple like thing on his bum so I had to take him back to the pediatrician and he gave me some antibiotic ointment and said if it doesn't go away to come back in a week. It didn't go away so we went back again. I'm sure the pediatrician wished he never walked into my room in the hospital. No one wants the crazy patient that brings her kid in for everything. The thing on his bum is legitimate concern but I just feel like I'm always in there. We go to Alpine Pediatrics and we see Dr. Alba. I really like him, he has never made me feel like the crazy mom that I absolutely am. Bryce is now on an oral antibiotic to clear up the abscess on his bum and hopefully this time it goes away. If not we will be referred to a surgeon to check if it is an extra tract from his gut.
