I really don't see how this belly could get any larger but I know it will. It doesn't feel like there is much room left in there but the doctor said he is going to double his weight in the next 10-11 weeks. Right now I am loving feeling him move around but not the jabbing me in the ribs. The other morning when I woke up Russ said he couldn't believe how much the baby was moving while I was sleeping and also couldn't believe it didn't wake me up. I am officially in my 3rd trimester and everything is going good. I feel pretty uncomfortable while sitting or sleeping, almost like there isn't enough room in my body. I have been working 4-5 days a week and I get pretty tired but not like I did in the first trimester. The doctor told me that it only gets worse from here on out because I will just get more and more uncomfortable. I have started to panic slightly thinking about all the things I need to get done before he arrives but Russ is always there to calm me down and let me know it will be okay. We are both so excited and can't wait to meet our baby boy.

Christmas 2011

This year we spent Christmas in Utah. My mom and dad came up and we spend Christmas Eve with them and Tanner and Lauren then we spent Christmas day with Russ' family in Santaquin. This is our 3rd Christmas in Utah. We open presents from each other on Christmas Eve and then open Santa presents Christmas morning. We started a few new traditions when we are in Utah. We go to a movie, this year we saw Sherlock Holmes, then we go out to diner at Outback and we end the night by opening gifts.

I was a little nervous when my Nana said she picked out tennis shoes for me but she picked the exact ones I wanted! My mom gave me some perfume and money for clothes after I have the baby. Russ gave me a pair of earrings and a gift certificate for a massage.

We had a delicious Christmas dinner with the Hunsakers in Santaquin. All of Russ' family was there. Kim got a dance game for her xbox so everyone spent the day dancing. We had a great time!

We opened presents with Addi on Friday before Christmas.

It took a lot of work but I finally convinced Russ that we should go so the lights at temple square. Tanner, Lauren and Addi came with us. First we went to the Red Iguana to get some yummy Mexican food and then we searched for a parking spot. This is why Russ hates to go. He says there are never any parking spots and it is always freezing. After to laps around the conference center we landed a very close spot. We bundled up and took a quick stroll around the temple only pausing long enough to take a few pictures.

I have been looking for a cute way to display Christmas cards and once Christmas is over I can hang family pictures on it. Robert's makes it so easy by selling these old wooden frames then just hammer in some nails and string some twine across it.

I was looking for a tree skirt and found a few beautiful ruffled ones on Etsy but they were $65-$120. I was so tempted to buy one but I found the same one on Pinterest and decided I'd give it a try. The instructions ask for linen fabric but it is about $14/yard so I used a cotton that was on sale for $1.99/yard. I used duck canvas for the bottom. It was about $25 for the fabric and glue sticks. It was a pretty simple project it just took a lot of time. About 30 minutes to cut the canvas and then cut the cotton into 2 in wide strips and another 2.5 hours to hot glue on all the strips. When I started I almost wished that I had just bought one but once i was finished I decided it was totally worth it. It is a little big for our little tree but hopefully we will have a bigger one by next year. The instructions are below.

Black Friday

I have never been shopping on Black Friday. I have always been kind of interested but never wanted anything badly enough to stay up all night and brave the crowds. This year Russ and I looked through all the ads on Thanksgiving Day and decided that this year we were going to get a Dyson vacuum. We stayed up until midnight to go to Target and try to get one but about 11:30 we decided against it. Instead we found one online that was $30 more and decided that it was worth it to pay a little extra and get our sleep. Friday morning I wanted to go to BabiesRUs to see if they had a rocking chair that was on sale. We didn't get there until noon so I thought that for sure it would be gone but there was one left! We got it for 50% off. Needless to say I was pretty happy with my Black Friday deals. Until Saturday when we went to Target to look at the vacuum we purchased in real life. We bought the Dyson dc24 but once we saw it we realized that it was smaller than a normal vacuum. There was one dc 25 left so we bought it and we are going to either return or sell the dc24 once it gets here.

Thankful

Every year I feel that I have so much to be thankful for but this year I feel especially blessed.This year I am thankful for...

Russ who is always supportive, kind, and loving.
A healthy pregnancy and the blessing we have to become parents.
My family who love us unconditionally and are always there to help no matter the situation.
Great friends who are always willing to help and make life more fun.
The gospel of Jesus Christ and the peace and happiness it brings to my life.
My job, which I love.
Our apartment, cars and things that just make a life a little easier.

This is what Russ said he was thankful for this year...
Today I am reminded of how grateful I am for all of the blessings in my life especailly my Savior Jesus Christ. I am grateful for my beautiful wife who is my best friend and whom I look up to so much. I am thankful and excited to have a baby boy who whill bring so much joy to our lives. I am thankful for my job at StorageCraft and that I have been blessed enough to provide for my family. I am thankful for our house that provides us shelter. I am thankful for trials which make us who we are.

This year we spend Thanksgiving with Russ' parents, grandparents and sister in Santaquin. We had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed the day visiting, napping and watching a movie. I made Nana's famous sweet potatoes and 2 pies.

Millionaire Pie( Mom)

· 2 Baked pie shells orgraham cracker crust shells

· 2 Cups powdered sugar

· 1 Stick softened butter ormargarine

· 1 Egg

· ¼ Tsp. salt

· ¼ Tsp Vanilla

Cream together powderedsugar and softened margarine. Add egg, salt and vanilla. Mix well until light and fluffy. Spread over the pie crust and chill.

· 2 Cups whipping cream

· 1 Small can crushedpineapple (well drained)

· ½ Cup Chopped pecans

· ½ Cup Powdered sugar

Whip cream until stiff, addpowdered sugar. Mix in pineapple and nuts (by hand). Spreadover the base mixture already in the shells. Chill

Sweet Potatoes (Nana)

1 large can sweet potatoes
1 cup sugar ( I usually only use 1/2 c)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
1 tb vanilla
1/3 stick melter butter
2 eggs

Mix all ingredients together. Bake in a round casserole dish.
Topping:

1 cup brown sugar
1/3 stick butter
1/3 cup flour
1/2 cup pecans

Combine until crumbly. Top the mixture in the casserole dish.
Bake 35 minutes at 350. Make sure center is cooked with toothpick.
Coconut Cream Pie
Ingredients

3 cups half-and-half
2 eggs
3/4 cup white sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup flaked coconut, toasted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (9 inch) pie shell, baked
1 cup frozen whipped topping, thawed

Directions

In a medium saucepan, combine half-and-half, eggs, sugar, flour and salt. Bring to a boil over low heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, and stir in 3/4 cup of the coconut and the vanilla extract. Pour into pie shell and chill 2 to 4 hours, or until firm.
Top with whipped topping, and with remaining 1/4 cup of coconut.
Note: To toast coconut, spread it in an ungreased pan and bake in a 350 degree F (175 degrees C) oven for 5 to 7 minutes, or until golden brown, stirring occasionally.

20 week ultrasound

Today we had our big 20 week ultrasound. I am actually 21 weeks 4 days but my doctor won't do the ultrasound until you are 21 weeks to ensure that everything is developed enough for them to see it. I was really nervous about this ultrasound because if something is wrong this is when you usually find out. On top of being nervous Russ realized last night that he had a meeting at 9 am in Draper and the appointment was at 8:30 in American Fork. We usually sync our calendars so he knows when all the appointments are but for some reason this one didn't show up on his calendar. He said he wasn't going to be able to come. I was devastated and he felt terrible. He has come to all the other appointments but this is THE appointment. He somehow figured out a way to come. I am am so glad he was there to be with me but also to experience it. Dr. Melendez measured the head and the stomach. After taking all the measurements he said that the baby is a little over 1lb. My original due date was March 23 but he said the computer says a baby that size is due March 19 but because it is only a few days they won't change the due date. He then went through the stomach, kidneys, heart, face, feet, hands, arms, legs, spine and everything looked great! Such a relief. When we looked at his face we could see his mouth open. I feel so blessed knowing that everything looked healthy. As most of you know we found out the sex of our baby at the last visit. We were just too anxious to wait but don't worry they had it right the first time. I held my breath for a second but he is still a little boy! We were lucky enough to get a dvd of the entire ultrasound. Warning it is 9 minutes long.

Pregnancy So Far

I have been terrible about writing in my journal or blogging about my pregnancy so far. In the beginning I was so on top of it but that only lasted about 3 weeks until I started getting sick. It's probably better that I am writing this post-morning sickness phase so it will sound a little more optimistic. Here is a summary of the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy:

We found out we were going to have a baby on July 15. The first few weeks were great. I wasn't sick at all and was determined to stay in shape my entire pregnancy. I went to the gym everyday although morning sickness and exhaustion quickly set it and I stopped working out. I have gotten a little better and walk or stair step about 3 times a week.
August 1 was the first day I threw up. I wasn't sure if it was morning sickness at the time but it started happening about 5-6 times a week so I knew it had to be. I was nauseous all day, every day but it wasn't smells or any particular food that made me vomit. It was when I would brush my teeth. Just sticking my toothbrush in my mouth instantly made me vomit. This was a problem. I am a dental hygienist so I couldn't just skip brushing, especially because I was usually heading to work to tell people that they need to brush and floss their own teeth better. Plus who wants a dental hygienist with bad breath. You are not supposed to brush right after you throw up because you will brush away your enamel but I did it anyway. I swear every woman who came into our office after having a baby had like 8 cavities so I am fully expecting my fair share. Luckily I haven't thrown up for about a week and a half and I am really hoping that it is over.
Besides the wonderful morning sickness I was extremely exhausted. I would take a least 1 nap a day, fall asleep on the couch in the evening and then go to bed around 8 pm. Russ thought this was hilarious and took several pictures of me spread out on the couch sleeping.

We waited until I was about 3 months pregnant before we let our friends and family in on our exciting news. You can read the whole story of how I told Russ and how we told each of our families here. I started to feel a little more like I was actually going to have a baby when everyone knew but it is still so surreal.
I have had 4 doctors appointments. We have had 3 ultrasounds and got to hear the heartbeat once. I loved seeing Russ' face as he saw our baby moving around on the screen.
I have had the craziest dreams while I have been pregnant. They are usually bad dreams and I have woke up crying several times.
I really haven't had any cravings in particular but when I want something I want it right then. One time I really wanted deviled eggs but I couldn't make them as good as Nana so I didn't crave them again.
Russ has been so great throughout the whole thing. He is always concerned and doesn't want me to do anything that could possibly be bad for our baby. No sushi and at first he wouldn't even let me have a Dr. Pepper. Finally I convinced him that a little caffeine is okay. I love when he rubs my belly and gets so excited when we talk about our little baby. I know that he will be a great daddy!
The most recent and exciting baby development is feeling feeling him move. I wasn't sure it that's what I was feeling at first but it has become more consistent. The doctor said some women describe it as a butterfly wing or an eyelash but those sound like things you don't feel at all. To me it feels like something is tapping on my stomach from the inside. I usually feel it when I am just laying down. It probably happens more often I just don't notice because it is such a light feeling.

That wasn't as optimistic as I thought it would be but I am absolutely loving the stage I am in right now. I am not really sick or tired. We have started buying things and thinking of names. I often think about who I am and who I want to be as a mother. When you're little you always think that your parents have all the answers and they always know what is right. It scares me to death knowing that very soon my little one with think the same of me. I just hope I can live up to the the wonderful examples of mothers that I have had in my life.

Obviously the belly is growing a little bit but my face has definitely gotten the brunt of the chubbiness. I will get better of taking them each week so I can document the progression.

About a month ago I was able to join Russ for one of his business trips. I went to the pool and shopping while he was in meetings. We went to Ka by Cirque Du Soleil. It was an amazing show. I would definitely recommend seeing it.

The Sweetest Sound

Today I got to hear the baby's heart beat for the first time! I have never heard a more beautiful sound. It was 150 beats/min, which the doctor said was perfect. He said this is the appointment where you can breath a sigh of relief because once you reach this point you're fairly safe. I felt bad because Russ didn't get to hear the baby's heart beat. He has been great about coming to all the appointments with me. Our appointment was at 9:40am but both doctors were doing emergency c-sections so I didn't get to go back until 10:45 and Russ had to leave to work. We will find out the first week of November if our tiny is a boy or girl.

The BIG announcement!

Russ and I couldn't be happier to announce that we will be welcoming our first baby around March 21 or 23 2012. (We have been to the doctor twice and they have said 2 different things after measuring the baby. Those dates are really close and since babies don't come on their due dates anyway we'll just say middle to end of March)

He was so HAPPY! I love the look on his face. After the big surprise we headed up to Park City to eat at Ruth's Chris to celebrate. I am so glad I got to have a good meal before the ~~all day~~ morning sickness set it.

This is how we told my family.

We decided we wanted to tell them in person so we told them when we went to Chama a few weeks ago. We swore them all the secrecy because Russ' parents were out of town and we had to wait to tell them. We planned to tell them Friday night over dinner but my Nana and Papa went to Albuquerque to visit Papa's brother in the hospital so that didn't work out. Saturday morning Nana had us all over for swedish pancakes so we made my mom open her birthday gift (a large board that hold pictures). I put several family pictures but we added the ultrasound with the due date on the card. She stared at it forever, Nana just kept looking at it then looking at me. They both gave Russ and I a big hug and I saw some tears (of joy) welling up in their eyes. The rest of the weekend Addi kept saying "nini you're having a baby. it's going to be a boy and we are going to name it spider."I'm not sure how long she'll love baby spyder when she realized that she'll have to share Grammy's attention. Tanner and Lauren were super excited too. Tanner said I was like a gremlin because I could't eat certain things and I had to eat almost all the time to keep from being sick.

We decided to tell Russ' family at the BYU vs Utah football game this past weekend. His entire family is obsessed with BYU football and almost the entire family has season tickets so we thought it was appropriate. Russ and I left our seats, I quickly changed my shirt and came back up wearing the shirt that said future Y fan with a little arrow pointing to my belly. I noticed that Nicole smiling and Chad giving us a thumbs up first. Someone was talking to Russ' parents so they were slightly distracted but eventually Kim looked down and saw the shirt. As we left the game Chad and Sara congratulated us again and Chad said it was the only good news he heard all day. I was glad we could some how make everyone feel a little better after the terrible loss. I think that the Hunsakers are all excited to add to their growing family.

We are so excited to start our family. We know that some of you thought this day would never come but we knew that, for us, timing is everything. After being married for almost 4 years, 3 college degrees and lots of fun now we are ready to take on parenthood. Well, I guess as ready as you can ever be. Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive and excited for us.

Fall Wreath

I don't know what it is about fall but it makes me want to craft, decorate and shop. I saw a super cute fall wreath on pinterest and a friend's blog and had to make it. It was so easy. I found the instructions here for the wreath and felt flowers. The wreath was $2.50 and the felt was $1 at Micheal's. This is my next project.

Chama

We hadn't been home since Christmas so we decided since Labor Day was a long weekend we'd make a weekend trip and go visit the family. We left Thursday night and didn't arrive until 2:30 am. I drove the last leg and Tanner said every time he'd wake up and look over at me I looked like a crazy woman with my eyes wide open squeezing the steering wheel. What can I say I was tired and I was trying to spot deer that might jump out in front of us.

Friday we followed the train up Cumbres and put pennies on the track.

We also ate at Fina's... I had to get my fix.

In the evening we drove out to Brazos and fed the deer.

They liked out bread and carrots but apparently they love potato chips.

While we were driving we saw a bear just crossing the road.

We spent Saturday riding four wheelers and watching the BYU football game.

Sunday we went to church. It was so nice to be back in our small branch. About 3pm the electricity went out so we headed over to Nana and Papa's for lunch. We ate our green chili chicken enchiladas and sopapillas in the dark. We spent the rest of the day relaxing outside and riding the four wheelers. About 7pm someone came to ask Papa if he could go cut a couple of trees that fell on the power lines. Papa, Tanner and Russ stayed out there until dark. We headed home to light some candles so we could have some light. Addi kept us entertained by telling us scary stories. About 10pm (just in time for bed) the electricity came back on. It was nice to be able to spend time together without the TV or other distractions. Monday we made the 8 hour trip home. It was nice to see everyone. I just wish we lived closer so we could be together more often.

Star Valley Wyoming

Every year Russ' dad's side of the family has a family reunion in Star Valley Wyoming. They always have it around July 16 because that is Kirk's mother, Isabell Hunsaker's, birthday. This year was her 96th! We ate, played minute to win it games, sang karaoke and visited most of the day. It is always fun to learn more about the Hunsakers and get to know that side of the family better.

Tyler, Nicole, Russ and I decided that we were going to stay in Star Valley and camp after the reunion. Finding a spot was a little bit tricky because many of the roads had been washed out and campsites were closed due to all the snow melting. We got a recommendation from one of Russ' uncles and headed up an old dirt road. We found a great spot right off of the road near a stream (it looked and sounded more like a river because it was so full).

We pitched out tent and gathered wood before heading back into town to eat dinner. We ate at a small diner called the Elk Horn Cafe. We were the only ones there besides two old couples. We were a little worried but after we ate our chicken fried steak specials with mashed potatoes and gravy we knew we had made a good choice. It was fun to be back in a small town like Chama.

After dinner we stopped by the store for a few supplies and headed back up to our beautiful camp site. Tyler made a fire and we made smores with symphony candy bars and roasted starbust candy. Eating smores with a symphony bar is the only way to go. Russ and I both said those were the best smores we have ever had. I had never roasted a starbust but after a few failed attempts I finally got to eat one. It tasted like a giant skittle. So yummy!

Before heading back to Orem we stopped at Grandma Isabell's old house that Spencer and Janet now own. We took a few pictures in front of the old barn then hopped in the car for the three and a half hour drive home.

4th of July

Friday night we went to a roof top concert with Taryn and Brady.

I had never heard of Sarah Sample but now I am slightly obsessed.

Yesterday Russ and I had the opportunity to help teach primary to special needs children at Tiny Tots in Orem. It is a residential nursing facility for children, teens and young adults with disabilities. Most of them couldn't speak or sing the primary songs with us but you could see the light in their eyes as we sang to them. We sang songs with them for about 45 minutes and then we pushed them in their wheel chairs outside for a walk. I spent 3 months in Ecuador working with many orphaned children but I was specifically assigned as the site leader over the special needs children. I am always amazed at how happy these special spirits are and how much love they have inside of them. Being with the Tiny Tots yesterday made me miss my special kids in Cuenca.

Day 6: Eo Wai'anae Snorkel Tour

This was definitely one of the funnest things we did while we were in Hawaii.

We were slightly skeptical when they said that we would be swimming along side dolphins and turtles but it was all we hoped for and much more! They took us to the first area where we swam above tons of dolphins. One dolphin even came right up to Ethan and Jay. Next we went to an area where there were tons of beautiful fish and huge turtles. We were so close to the turtles we could have touched them but we didn't because it was against the rules. They also had stand up paddle boards and kayaks for us to use. They ended the tour by grilling up some hamburgers right on the boat! It was an amazing tour and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Oahu.

Day7: Temple and Polynesian Cultural Center

Definitely another fantastic day.

The temple was beautiful.

The Polynesian Cultural Center was amazing.

We only got to visit two of the villages and see the river show before the luau because we got there a little late and it was pouring rain we got there. The dinner was good, although that I will admit that Hawaiian food is not my favorite. We did have a very delicious smoothie in a pineapple for dessert.

The Ha: Breathe of Life night show was great! There were amazing fire dancers and hula dancers.

Day 8:Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor requires that you have a timed ticket to ride the boat

out to see the USS Arizona Memorial so while we waited

we visited the museums and walked around the grounds. It was

so humbling to know that so many were trapped in the sunken ship and

that became their permanent resting place. I was a reminder of the sacrifices

the men and women of the US Military make for our freedom.

Because the USS Arizona was recommissioned and is therefore the

senior ship each ship that enters Pearl Harbor salutes it.

Day 9: North Shore

It was raining really hard as we drove over to the

North Shore creating beautiful waterfalls everywhere.

By the time we got there it had stopped raining.

We ate lunch at Giovanni's shrimp truck.

It was delicious. I ended up eating some of my Nana's

because I got the got and spicy ones which were basically

straight Tobasco. I couldn't handle it but Craig sure did.

Next time I'll pay a little more attention to the menu, especially

if it says "extremely spicy, no refunds."

We also visited the sacrificial temple historical site. There was nothing

there really except a whole lot of chickens that Avery and Addi couldn't get enough of.

We spent most of the day at Waimea Beach. We swam, snorkelled and

even did a little cliff jumping.

As you can tell these rocks are not very high but I still had to

jump from a lower spot. I realize I am a total chicken.

The last and best stop of the day was Matsumoto Shave Ice.

I love shaved ice. It's pretty much the best part of summer.

They have these beans that they can put in the bottom which are supposedly

their specialty but they were totally disgusting. I ended up eating

2: one with beans at the bottom and one with ice cream at the bottom.

We ended the day by looking for crabs at the beach back at the resort.

34 Years of Service

Sunday my grandpa, Leonard Jensen, was released after serving for 34 as the Chama, New Mexico Branch President. The Stake President said that as far as he knows that was the longest any branch president has served in New Mexico, Colorado, and Arizona. He has always been a great example to his family and those in the small town he lives in. Although the members of the LDS church in Chama are few he preformed countless weddings and presided over numerous funerals for people of all faiths. If you ask anyone in Chama they could tell you that my papa is a man of faith. People passing through town in need of help are often referred to my grandpa because everyone knows that he is willing to help anyone. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful man to look up to in my life.

My brother Tanner is a great writer and here is what he wrote about Papa:

Today an LDS chapel in northern New Mexico did something they hadn’t done in over three decades.
Today Leonard Jensen was released as Branch President after serving in this position for 34 years. I spoke to my grandpa today and he laughingly said “well it was just time for a change and today I was able to walk out and not even worry about locking the door.”

For years I have watched my grandpa dedicate all that he is to the members and four walls that made up this small branch, countless hours mowing lawns, shoveling and plowing snow, calling and visiting branch members and others, traveling hundreds of miles to church meetings often before the sun
rose or long after it set. I have yet to hear a single complaint; in fact I can honestly say that is was experiences such as these that brought him the most joy.

I know that my grandpa cherished the time he spent as branch president and I know I speak for more then just myself when I say that we cherished this time as well. Thanks papa for “practicing what you preach” and being a man that lives his beliefs, it is people like you that make a difference, it is people like you that set an example, it is people like you that save people like me. I know you will probably never fully recognize the difference you have made but trust me when I say that myself and others are better because of you.

My grandpa also mentioned that after leaving today without the worry of locking up that he stopped, turned and looked back at that glass door that he had locked so many times before............. Papa, I
know that 34 years of cherished experiences and memories were looking right back at you through that same glass door.

We all love you Papa and are genuinely thankful for everything you do and have done.

A taste of Hawaii

We had so much fun in Hawaii! I have more to say and tons of pictures to share but until then here is a little snippet my brother wrote about your vacation. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It may have a few inside jokes but to those who know my family it is hilarious. I love my family so much and I am so grateful to them!

From teaching JR to throw, laughing at Misty's education on the mating habits of swans (which as it turns out are not simply male ducks), Craig's perfect imitation of Jonny from karate kid (just put him in a body bag buddy), Mandy hassling the barkeep, the Fishers and Horners laying on that sweet southern accent then explaining that they are actually from New Mexico, Sherri for teaching Avery how a real diva throws a tantrum on the beach, Russ who was always willing to display his newly formulated guns, Lauren who still smells like a Café Late due to her excessive use of the Maui Babe Tanning Lotion, Nana who was planning on smuggling 25cent Snowy Cups home so that we would not be charged for new ones on our next trip, Papa who solidified his status as a hybrid of some type of an otter and Navigation System(No one swims quite like POPS), my mom for affectionately referring to the beach as the “Beotch”. Finally to myself for adding a whole lot of awesome sprinkled with a dash of sexy wrapped in humility while still managing to try and enter every Naval base on the island (Turns out they are still pretty liberal with the shotgun in the face routine) and for running out of gas nearly a mile from our resort causing us to push the car home while pops dashes for a bush in front of a Five Star hotel.

I love you guys and I am aware of how fortunate I am to have memories filled with your faces. I know without a doubt that my best qualities are a result of your examples and though we may not always agree we will never doubt that no matter the circumstance we will always stand alongside one another.

A friend shared this recipe. They are so good and so simple to make. I made them on Sunday for a Desperate Housewives season finale treat. Needless to say I have a lot left over and with Hawaii coming up next week it is not a good thing.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

( Next time I would use less chocolate chips. They

were almost too chocolaty if that is possible.)

2 1/8 cups (10 1/2 ounces) all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
12 tablespoons butter (1 1/2 sticks), melted and cooled slightly
1 cup (7 ounces) light brown sugar
1/2 (3 1/2 ounces) cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
1 large egg yolk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups chocolate chips (use your preference of semisweet, bittersweet, milk, white, peanut butter...the options are endless!)

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Adjust the oven rack to lower-middle position.

Mix the flour, salt, and baking soda together in medium bowl; set aside. Whisk the melted butter and sugars in a large bowl until combined. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla and mix well. Using a rubber spatula, fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture until just combined; do not overmix. Fold in the chocolate chips and turn the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with the spatula.

Bake at 325 until the top of the bars is light golden brown, slightly firm to the touch, and edges start pulling away from sides of pan, 24-28 minutes. Cool on a wire rack to room temperature. Cut into 2-inch squares and serve.

Russ' UVU Graduation!

Russ finished his classes in December but UVU doesn't have a ceremony after fall semester so after much persuasion Russ decided to walk this spring.

He earned his bachelors degree in Business Management.

I am just as excited as he is to be done so I don't have to write anymore papers on

business topics that I know nothing about.

Russ is still working at StorageCraft and loving it.

I am so proud of him and his dedication to finish!

I agreed to go to this game with him despite the rain/snow and freezing cold. Nicole and I decided that we wanted to color eggs this year. We told the boys that we had a double date planned but didn't tell them what the activity was. Russ' response was "it's arts and crafts isn't it?" He knows me all too well. Despite the fact that they thought it was a waste of eggs they had fun. Russ and Tyler's eggs consisted of BYU, Jimmer, Jazz and a football. Nicole and I did cute ones with polka dots and swirls.

I can't believe that I am FINALLY done with dental hygiene school. At times it felt like those 20 months would never end. I made some amazing friends and learned so much. Thank you to all my friends and family that came in and let me clean your teeth. Also, I am sooo grateful to Russ who called my patients in spanish, encouraged me when I thought I wouldn't make it and listened to me talk about CIs, calculus and perio. Russ found this picture of us at the New Mexico bowl on the cougarboard today. We were searching it to see if we could see ourselves but it you look right in the middle Russ is standing up wearing a gray BYU hoodie and I am to the left followed by Nana, Mom, Tanner and Lauren!

Yesterday Russ and I went to the BYU vs Wyoming game. We sat in the student section because Tyler and Nicole are in Hawaii so they let us use their all sports passes. Jeff informed us before the game that we would be doing this dance during the Iceberg shake it up contest. Russ and I didn't know the moves very well and probably looked extremely silly but it looks pretty cool as a whole... enjoy!

Valentine's Day

Russ and I had a fantastic Valentine's Day. We actually celebrated on Saturday since it's slightly inconvenient to celebrate on a weeknight while trying to do homework and study for boards. We planned to go to Sakura Japanese Steakhouse on Saturday night but other than that is was a normal Saturday. Russ went to play basketball at the church like he does every Saturday at 8 and I half expected him to show up with flowers but he didn't. Then he went to wash his car and I thought that was code for Valentine's shopping but he returned with nothing. I started to think that any flowers I might be getting were not coming on Saturday. Finally, he comes in from drying his car and tells me I need to take a shower and he'll finish cleaning the house. I told him I don't want to shower yet because I didn't want to mess up my hair before our date but he insisted. I thought this was slightly suspicious especially since his brother was calling and texting him saying he was leaving his house. So I got in the shower and started imagining what he could be up to. When I got out of the shower nothing was out of the ordinary until I walked into our room and saw the BEAUTIFUL flowers he had got me. He had picked them up from Thanksgiving Point on his way home from work on Friday night and left them at his brothers apartment. He also got me a gift certificate for a massage, which will be much needed when I am done with my board exam. He did a fantastic job of surprising me and nothing I imagined topped the reality! We had a great time at dinner and the food was fantastic. We ended the night falling asleep on the couch while watching a redbox.

Thanks Russ for making Valentine's Day so special. I love you so much!

Bachelor of Science in Business Management

I am so proud of Russ! He received his diploma in the mail this past week. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Business. I couldn't be more proud of him. He worked all through school to pay his tuition and support himself. After we got married he worked full time and went to night school. I am so proud of him for working so hard. I am so glad I married someone who knows the value of education and hard work. He is currently working at Storage Craft which is a software company that does data backup and disaster recovery. He loves his job and is a great at what he does. Love you Russ!

Addi and Lauren Come to school!

Addi came in this week to have her teeth cleaned. She came in March but didn't like it very much. She was soooo good this time and everyone thought she was so cute in her bumble bee costume.

Lauren also come into to school but it was probably her fifteenth time! I am taking my local anesthesia licensing exam in December in Phoenix and since my big, strong husband is deathly afraid of needles and blood, Lauren graciously agreed to be my patient. I have practiced on her 3 times and I will only have 2 more practices before the real thing... eeeeeeek!!!

Russ turned 28 this week but we started celebrating last Friday with all his friends at Outback. Then on his actual birthday I got up early and made him french toast and then he and I went to Milowi's Pizza. Happy 95th Birthday!

Russ and I got a chance to visit with her.
She told us about her love for her hometown of Smoot, Wyoming.
She also told us how she was a cook at the elementary school
where she fed 750-800 people per day. She was so
sweet and so happy to talk to us!

Each of her children took time to get up and a tell a favorite memory
or attributes they loved about their mother. I didn't have
the opportunity to know her throughout her life
but from the stories I heard about her I learned that she
was a very compassionate woman who loved
to help others. I also heard about her famous cinnamon roles
that she would take to various people in town.

This is Kirk and his brother Spencer. Notice the Utah hat and
the BYU shirt. They just avoid the subject of sports when they get
together. It is pretty funny how intense they are!

We also stopped by Isabell and Leron's home.
The F on the barn is for Findlay, Isabell's maiden name.

Finally, on our way out of town we stopped by Grandpa Leron's grave.

This year spent our 4th of July at Stadium of Fire. Carrie Underwood was the performer this year and she was AMAZING live. She sounds just as good or better as her recorded songs. Tyler and Nicole went with us to dinner at Cafe Rio and then to the show. The fireworks were great,
Im just glad we weren't sitting in the area where they accidentally shot into the crowed.
I am so grateful that we live in this great country with all the freedoms we have been
blessed with. When Russ and I went to the DR last year he asked me why we were so lucky to be born in the United States, I have no idea but I know that I am grateful!

So finally I can say I am halfway done with dental hygiene school. The ten months has gone by incredibly fast but add the 12 years of elementary, jr, high and high school plus the 4 years at BYU and you get a total of 17 and 8 months of school!!! Lets just say I can't wait to be done with school so I will actually get paid for all my hard work and Russ and I will have time to spend with each other.

Now this might sound weird to most people but my new favorite thing is to do nerve blocks. We have just started learning how to give shots to numb our patient's mouths. I love to give the shots NOT get them. We are practicing on each other this semester but next semester we do it on real patients!!!

During the past 11 weeks I have run over 200 miles. After I signed up I wasn't sure if I could do it! 13.1 miles seemed like a really long way to run and the race seemed really far away but the time came sooner than I expected. Before training for the half marathon I had never ran more than 5 miles but during training 5 miles was a short run.

The race was much easier than I thought it would be. It was cold and rainy but I think that was the perfect weather for the race. Around mile 10 I started to get fatigued but I only had 3 miles left. I could run 3 miles in my sleep but that wasn't after I had already run 10 miles. I finished in 2 hours and 10 minutes and 368th out of almost 800 participants. So far this is one of my greatest accomplishments in my short life!

Here are a few things I learned while running:
1. I can do anything I set my mind to!

3.I have to have my ipod (even though i listen to country or pop music)
4.I must have gum
5.If I'm running with someone I have to run on their right side
6.I have to know what mile I am on at all times
7. I don't like to run on straight roads (I don't like seeing way far into the distance)
8.I like to read the subtitles to CNN while running on the treadmill.
9. Blisters are ugly and painful

10. There is no greater feeling than accomplishing something you thought was impossible!

Zion

Russ and I went camping to Zion National Park over Memorial Day weekend with our friends Chad and Julie and their 2 year old little boy Weston. They have a pop up trailer and it was definitely luxurious camping. We slept on a queen size bed and had hot meals every night for dinner.
Zions is a beautiful place. We went on a couple of hikes and saw a lot of the park. Russ and I hiked up to Angel's Landing. Let me tell you a little bit about this hike...

1488 ft
(according to the hiking guide) Strenuous: Long drop-offs and narrow trail. NOT FOR ANYONE FEARFUL OF HEIGHTS. Ends at summit high above Zion Canyon floor. Last .5 mile (0.8 km) follows a steep, narrow, ridge; chains have been added.

It was fun but scary because the last .5 mile is super scary because it is about 4 ft wide with drop offs on each side. There are chains to hold on to and in some areas pull yourself up. I am afraid of heights so I couldn't look around I had to keep my eyes focused straight ahead on the trail. When it was done we were so glad we did it and we got some great pictures.

Golf?

So my handsome husband decided it was time to return his dad's golf clubs to him and purchase his very own. After several trips to golf stores and hours of research on the internet he finally found "the pair". Last Saturday was a beautiful day so we decided to take them out for a spin on the driving range. Russ enjoyed himself! Me on the other hand, well I was frustrated... I would swing as hard as I could and I imagined that the ball was going to go 200 yards but every time I swung that golf club I missed. I did hit a few balls but it took on average 5 swing to hit the ball. Now I am not saying that I hate golf despite this awful experience, I am saying that I would like golf lessons.

I have been dying to plant flowers but it has been too cold. I convinced Russ that it was finally warm enough. I went to Costco in Orem and Lehi and to Walmart and Home Depot but I got all I wanted. They look really good. Sorry about the bad pictures. I was experimenting with photoshop trying to figure out how to make a collage.

I was super excited to make crispy coconut chicken tenders a couple of nights ago. While I was on Our Best Bites site I also found a recipe for sweet potato fries and decided that wold be a good addition to the chicken tenders. Well it all went wrong...

1. I burned the sweet potato fries.
2. I tried to make sweet and sour sauce. I was using very simple recipe I would like to add but some how added 4 cups of brown sugar instead of 4 T spoons.
3. I decided to make frozen corn after the burned fries but I didn't read the instructions and dumped them into boiling water. Needless to say at this point that they weren't supposed to be in water because they have butter balls already in them.
4. The chicken tenders did come out really good except they have curry in them and Russ doesn't really like curry so they were not a hit at my house.

I don't consider myself a HUGE basketball fan but I married a sports fanatic which includes basketball of course. Russ always has said he would love to go to a playoff game and his brother Tyler made it a reality for us. We went with Tyler and his roommate Jeff. The atmosphere at a playoff game is intense to say the least but sooo fun. It was so loud and everyone was into the game. I even wore a jersey (thanks Tyler). Jazz won and I am actually excited to watch the game on Wednesday. GO JAZZ GO!!!

This year my birthday fell on the most inopportune day. First of all it was on a Sunday so we planned to go out to dinner on Saturday but almost all of my friends were busy and second it was the weekend before finals so everyone was studying. So instead of having no party I ended up with 2 parties.

Lauren, my brother's girlfriend, has the same birthday as me so we went to cheesecake factory on Saturday night together to celebrate!

On my acutal birthday (Sunday) Russ made me pancakes. This is sort of a big deal because I have never seen him cook anything other than Ramen noodles or Hamburger Helper.

After finals were over a couple of my friends from school took me out to California Pizza Kitchen.

And Katie made me the most delicious cake...mmm!

April Fools!

So last night my patient canceled last minute and a girl in my class gave me a number to call to get a new patient. I call this guy and he says he'll come but he hopes I am ready for a challenge because he has lingual braces. This means that he has normal braces but they are on the tongue side or his teeth instead of the cheek side. All night I was completely stressed because I have never had a patient with normal braces and this guy has them on the inside. So this morning I walk him back to my operatory and sit him down. As he is talking to me I see brownish/black stuff on his teeth and then he randomly says"I don't brush very often." I'm thinking Oh no, this is going to be so hard. We require every patient to rinse with Listerine before we start working in their mouths to reduce the amount of bacteria in their mouths. So I had him rinse and when he spit it out it was full brown chunks. He proceeds to tell me that he and his friend thought it would be funny to use "teeth rot" paint on his teeth to play an April fool's joke on me. It would have been funnier if he had let me actually start looking in his mouth first but overall a pretty good April fool's day joke! This is an actual picture he email me of his mouth before he came in.

On Saturday a couple of girls from school and I went to the Festival of Colors at the Hare Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork. I wasn't sure what to expect. All I heard about it was you get covered in chalk and your clothes get ruined. As soon as we got there we headed over to the booth where you buy the chalk (I think it was Indian scented corn starch). By the time we made it through the crowd we were splotched with pink chalk. After we got our chalk we started throwing it at each other and random people. After we saw some Indian dancing and listened to the music there was a count down and everyone threw their colored chalk in the air. It was kind of beautiful to see all the colors in the air. And that is how I welcomed spring!

This past Sunday Russ and I went down to visit his parents. His mom's parents are in town visiting and told me all about the genealogy they have been doing. Just listening tell their stories got me excited about family history and documenting mine and Russ' life. Kim had a couple of pictures of Grandma and Grandpa Thornock and Kirk's parent's as well. I love pictures and was so happy I was able to get copies of them. I am hoping to get some of my grandparent's pictures next time I visit home.

Russ and I celebrated Valentine's Day by:

Getting a couples massage. I surprised Russ by making up a crazy story about how we were going to feed the homeless lunch. I really have been wanting to do that so he bought it.

Seeing the movie Valentine's Day. Russ and I both liked it, which according to Russ "it was good even for a chick flick"

Picking out flowers. Russ didn't have time to pick up flowers so he took me to pick out my own.

Exchanging gifts. Russ surprised me with really cute shoes I have been wanting and I got him a bucket of candy and the massage of course.

Chama...

After Christmas and Utah Tanner, Addi, Mom, Dad and I packed up and made the 8 hour journey to Chama. Russ had to work so he couldn't come but we definitely missed him. Sherri, Ethan and new baby Avery also came to Chama after they spent Christmas with Jay's family in L.A. We were so excited to see Avery. She was born in September and we hadn't made it to DC to see her yet so she came to us! We had a great time playing in the snow, riding the four wheelers and playing cards with the family. Anyone who has ever been to my Nana's house knows that we never had to chance to get hungry. Nana is an amazing cook. She would finish cooking breakfast and move on to cooking lunch and then move straight into cooking dinner. Mmm...good.

Ethan fell asleep while we were being pulled behind the four wheeler. We crashed and he stayed asleep. It was the funniest thing ever.

Sherri and I eventually kicked the kids off of the sleds and we had a blast.

I definitely was not as good of a driver as Tan. I broke the rope 3 times in about 5 minutes.

Christmas 2009!

We had a great Christmas this year. We are on a rotating schedule with Russ' family and my family. This year was the Hunsaker's year. Since there are only 2 children family and we both live in Utah, my mom and dad came to us for Christmas. It was nice because we were able to have the best of both worlds. Christmas Eve we saw the Blindside, went out to dinner and opened presents. My family tradition is to open presents from each other on Christmas Eve and then we open Santa presents on Christmas morning. Christmas day my dad made a wonderful breakfast and then we went to Russ' parent's house to open more gifts and eat Christmas dinner.

Happy Birthday Russ!

Russ is such an amazing person! I am so grateful for how hard we works. He is so cute when he plays his ps3 football game. All I hear is "are you freakin kidding me" or "no freakin way." I love that he loves his Cougars and watches every single game! He lets me put my cold feet on him. He helps put the laundry away. He will surprise me by cleaning the house before I come home. Always helps me with my spanish homework and quizes me before tests. He makes sure my car is clean. He is always wants to help. He loves our primary kids and is always thinking of ways to help them. He so sweet and always wants to cuddle. He is a great husband and I know one day he will make a great daddy. Russ I love you and I hope you have a great day!

Ecuador Reunion

A few weeks ago I spent the night in Park City with some of my Ecuador girls. We have been home two years but we all are still great friends. Thanks to Michelle booking the hotel and getting us all together we were able to catch up, relax in the hot tub and eat some yummy pizza!

So I have been in dental hygiene school for about a month now (19 more to go)! I am really loving it. I have never read so much in my life but everything I am learning is exactly what I will be doing in my career. Last week we got right down to it and started taking x-rays. I was really nervous because a lot of the girls worked in dental offices before and knew exactly how to take them. I was pretty proud of myself when I got a 39/40 on my first set of bitewings. It is not as easy as it looks you have to line it up just right and make sure there is space between the teeth and you have to get the right teeth! In January I start working on real patients so if any of you want free cleanings give me a call. The school also has a dentist that does discount fillings, root canals, and other dental work.

Summer and Todd Pendleton

Summer and Todd finally tied the knot after dating for, well I guess forever! The got married on Friday, August 14 in the Salt Lake Temple. Summer looked beautiful! Their reception was in Evanston, Wyoming which is their hometown.

Russ and I have been completely busy this summer. We have been on vacation, working, going to school, doing internships and helping with Russ' parents house. We haven't had much time for summer fun... yet but I sure we will. Here is what we have been up to

Internship
I am doing my internship for BYU at RAH (Recreation and Habilitation). It is an organization that provides activities for adults with disabilities. I am teaching health classes to them once a week and helping with other activities. Russ came to volunteer one day and here are some pictures.

Pool
I haven't made it too the pool too many times but Summer and I went one day and had a blast. I am so sad that she moved home :(

Russ and I went to the Oquirrh Temple open house. It was beautiful and the clouds outside look gorgeous in the pictures.

Dominican Republic

Russ and I took a trip to the Dominican Republic at the end of April/beginning of May. We first visited Santo Domingo, where Russ served his mission, then we visited Punta Cana, where we stayed at a resort. It was an amazing trip and it was great to take a break from life. The water was so blue it looked fake. The Dominican Republic is the most beautiful place I have ever been.

Christopher Columbus first landed in the Dominican
Republic. Santo Domingo is the first city of the new world
and these are some of the ruins.El Faron de Colon
This is a large light house and inside is a mausoleum
where Christopher Columbus is buried. Before Christopher
Columbus wrote a letter requesting to be buried in the Dominican
Republic. Each October they open the tomb so you can see his bones.
Each country has a room in the light house (all the US sent
was pictures and they said that the US is cheap)
Some restaurant....
We ate La Bandera Dominicana
which is rice, pinto beans (habichuela), and fried chicken. We
had 2 cokes and some fried plantanes.
This meal cost us like $40 USD. It was insane
Russ thinks they just tried to rip us off because we were tourists.

It is such a small world a missionary couple
came up to us and asked us where we were from
I said from Chama, New Mexico and they said "oh well maybe
you know my son Brandon" Brandon lived in Chama for several
year and we knew him and his wife. As some of you know Chama is a very
small town so it was funny to meet someone half way across the world.This is our room at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana.
This place is beautiful.

These photos were taken on the beach right in front of our resort.
They have professional photographers walking around taking pictures and then
you can go look at them and select the ones you want. Call me crazy
but it cost $10 per picture on cd. I only got these 5 but there
were so many more good ones.Snorkel face...lol

This guy was covered in glitter. It was hilarious.

For Valentine's Day I gave Russ a coupon book. One of the coupons was for a Jazz game so we went to the Jazz vs Houston game last week.

Russ ordered an old school Jazz jersey but it didn't get here in time for the game but he wore it last night while he watched the game from home. I guess it brought them good luck because they won! While he was doing that I was reading the book for my camera (that I have had for about 3 years) and I discovered it can do some really cool stuff. I can take pictures and only one color will show. I took Russ picture with the green showing in his jersey and the yellow. He thinks the green one is just all grey because he is color blind.
